- identify the sounds of consonants, consonant blends and digraphs
- identify the sounds of vowels and vowel blends
- learn how to segment a word into individual sounds
- practise pronouncing consonants to avoid confusing them
- divide words into syllables
- identify closed, magic e and rhyming syllables
- identify homonyms, antonyms and synonyms
- practise using a thesaurus to find antonyms and synonyms
- build awareness of blended sounds and spelling skills using word chains
- identify, memorize and use sight words to write a short story

- Say both hard and soft G
- Understand the K sound and the various ways it is spelled
- Say and spell trigraphs and the schwa sound
- Understand different types of syllables including open syllables, r-controlled syllables, consonant le syllables and vowel team syllables
- Understand prefixes and suffixes, including commonly confused and related suffixes.
- Use spelling rules related suffixes
- Master more sight words

Reading Comprehension Strategies
Learn to read and understand different types of texts, like documents, stories, and novels. There are three levels and each teaches skills such as:

This is a 3-part series and is filled with stories of ordinary people who made a difference in everyday life: standing up against unfairness, writing letters, sharing their experiences, voting, using humour, and starting conversations for social change. For each story, learn new words, review comprehension, and practice word attack strategies.

Ready for College Reading 1 - 5
Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension
These lessons have 3 sections: Word Lists, Practice, and Reading Passages. In each assignment, 10-20 words are introduced. Words are used in sample sentences and can be read out loud. Words are also broken down into prefixes, roots and suffixes and listed with synonyms and antonyms. After studying, practice questions will be used to identify definitions and key details.
